transform all wearables into fitness trackers

FocusMotion offers a development kit (SDK), capable of transforming almost any wearable into a fitness tracker!

Using the accelerometer, gyroscope, electromyography and magnetometer of a wearable, the kit can thus understand the movements and rhythm of users. Thanks to a system of algorithms, it is possible to teach FocusMotion to detect individual movements made during a workout. Once the exercises have been programmed, such as flexions, push-ups, abs… the software will only take these into account, ignoring the user's movements if they go to the toilet.

FocusMotion will keep pace, strength and rapport, giving athletes a good indication of their activity, allowing them to see how to improve. A good idea for smartwatches and wearables whose fitness trackers leave something to be desired. For the moment, the device works with wearables attached to the wrist, but co-founder Cavan Canavan hopes to expand the range of wearables that work with this kit in the future.

FocusMotion is currently in partnership with Pebble, but claims that their development kit works with any open wearable platform, no matter what smartwatch operating system. The kit is available to developers, and is expected to launch in four to five weeks.
