A little over a year ago, Withings launched Sleep, a device to slide under the mattress, capable of monitoring the quality of your sleep. More precise than a smart health connected watch and particularly discreet, it was in particular capable of detecting certain respiratory disturbances such as snoring.
The specialist in smart health connected health returns today with a new model, Sleep Analyzer, which adds a string to the arc of this range: auto-detection of sleep apnea. This pathology with sometimes serious repercussions – from fatigue to major heart problems – affects hundreds of thousands of French people. Fatigue, concentration problems, or irritability … these symptoms which result from involuntary and more or less frequent respiratory stops during sleep, are not always easy to detect. And the examination which confirms real sleep apnea is long and demanding.

The equivalent (or almost) of a smart health connected watch
While being a true preventive medical solution, Sleep Analyzer does not require any heavy equipment and is intended to be very easy to use. And after a trial of a few days, it is clear that the installation and use of the product does not require more handling than those linked to any smart health connected bracelet.

The Withings product is presented as a fabric sleeve about sixty centimeters long, within which we find in addition to a network of sensors, the smart health connected module smart health connected to a USB cable. It will be necessary to connect the latter, during installation, to an electrical outlet using the supplied USB power adapter.
To function properly, the device must be inserted between the mattress and the box spring, across and on the side of the bed where the person to be diagnosed sleeps. As in the screenshot below, it must be ensured that it is positioned at the height of the sleeper's heart.

The second step is to install the Withings Health Mate application on your smartphone (Android or iOS) and then go and find the Sleep Analyzer in the list of the company's many health products. Small subtlety, the device will connect via bluetooth to your smartphone but it will also have to be smart health connected to the Wi-Fi box of the house.
Once the installation is complete, all you have to do is … go to sleep. Like a smart health connected watch, the Sleep analyzer will record your night's sleep and give you its verdict as soon as you get up.
Health Mate: all the secrets of your night
In the Health Mate app, you can now discover your sleep time but also, in more detail, the different phases of your sleep (light, paradoxical, deep …). You will also find out right away if your apnea is mild (apnea-hypopnea index or AHI less than 15), moderate or severe. Only the last two will require a consultation with a specialist.

Little criticism against this product, If you move too much in your sleep – enough to no longer be above the sensor -, the data will not be automatically collected, as you can see in the third capture below -above.
Before any consultation, in case of doubt, the app offers you to do two tests. that of Epsworth (to assess your drowsiness) and Stopbang (for the risk of obstructive apnea). Like the first Sleep, this second version Analyzer also allows you to detect snoring episodes.

More classic, we find in the app his night awakenings, as short as they are, but also his heart rate during sleep as well as many summaries which are as many indicators as to the quality of your nights.

In conclusion, the Sleep Analyzer provides the service of a watch without the inconvenience of having to wear one during the night. And above all, this product will offer really concrete answers to all those who fear suffering from sleep apnea, but regularly postpone a consultation in a sleep laboratory.
The Withings Sleep Analyzer is available for 129.95 euros.
