The first Brillo products appear at CES 2016

The first Brillo products appeared at CES 2016 in Las Vegas. As a reminder, Brillo is Google’s new platform for the Internet of Things. It is accompanied by a new language: Weave.

The first Brillo products are not necessarily very numerous, neither very sexy, nor very detailed, but they have the merit of showing that Brillo and Weave are starting to be adopted by companies. Good news for Google who must imperatively and quickly be able to compete with Apple and its health home Kit. For the moment only four products have been presented.

First, Asus presented a hub built on Brillo. It should make it easier for people using other Asus smarthome products to connect to their Android smartphones. Not very existing I grant you but this is a bit what we had already seen with the Apple HomeKit when Lutron and Insteon had also launched hubs for their products. In addition to its hub, Asus has confirmed that other Brillo products will be introduced later in 2016.

Another product: a smart door lock that connects to Weave. Presented by Kwikset, it offers a new design and works without any keys. A prototype of the lock should be on the show this week. Third product: Marvell announced a Wi-Fi chip using the Weave language. Not very interesting, but it will allow other companies to start building health home automation products on the new Google platform more easily and quickly. Harman said it is working with other companies to help them build Brillo devices.

Well, I warned you: nothing very exciting, but the CES is just getting started. It's a safe bet that other announcements will be made during CES 2016. It remains to be seen which products will be presented…
