At the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, Sony Mobile Communications refreshed its latest wearable, the Sony SmartWatch 3: the wristwatch comes in a stainless steel version – technically everything has remained the same.
For all those who want something a little more classy: Sony presented a stainless steel version of the SmartWatch 3 at CES 2015. The digital timepiece was originally announced at IFA 2014 in Berlin. The former version was encased in a soft plastic. Taste is in the eye of the beholder, but the watch really wasn't pretty. With a new design and a much higher quality feel, the Japanese manufacturer now wants to score in terms of aesthetics and timelessness.
The display has a diagonal of 1.6 inches – that's about 4 centimeters. The resolution is specified with the vector QVGA (= 320 × 320 pixels). According to Sony, the display should be particularly easy to read in bright sunlight.
The watch with Google's Android Wear OS remains waterproof and dustproof according to IP68. The presentation emphasized that the SmartWatch 3 is the only Android Wear watch with GPS. Otherwise, the SmartWatch 3 offers 512 MB of RAM, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and a 420 mAh battery. In addition to the more elegant variant, the company is also announcing a bracket that will make it possible to use any 24 mm band.
The SmartWatch 3 in stainless steel will be available in spring for 279 euros. Daniel and Sameer are on site and will look at the stainless steel version, a hands-on follows …
