Unboxing of Tangram Smart Rope

The packaging of the Smart Rope is a simple, matte black square. No frills adorn the packaging, which only consists of the product name, the brand, a QR code on the back as well as some information such as the model, its color, etc. A completely different design choice from the new version of the Smart Rope.

When you open the packaging, you find the instructions and a round and always black storage bag, branded once again with the name of the product. The latter contains the smart health connected jump rope.

Design and ergonomics

We chose the black and gold Smart Rope. The color is a bit bling of course, but very nice. The handles, which have sensors, measure fifteen centimeters each and are cylindrical in shape. The cord is made of rubber and is composed in the middle of a part of LEDs more than 30 centimeters.

Its look is therefore quite classic. On one of the handles is the button On Off which can open and make room for the plug for loading the jump rope.

5 sizes different rope are available: from 228 to 287 centimeters, and three colors: chrome, gold or black. Regarding the price, it starts at $ 89.99 for the smallest size and the simplest design, just under 83 euros, and can go up to $ 100, or almost 90 euros.

IOS or Android application associated with Tangram Smart Rope: Smart Gym

It's always fun to come across a product that has an application for operating systems Android and iOS. So we were able to Review the Smart Rope and its application Smart Gym on the Google OnePlus One.

The application is very intuitive and the configuration is child's play.

General use

The Smart Rope jump rope lights up by pressing the stop button for one second. It then turns blue and flashes slowly if it has been paired with Bluetooth. If the LED is white, the Bluetooth connection has been lost and if it is red, the battery level of the Smart Rope is below 20%.

Regarding the battery precisely, it recharges in two o'clock to ensure up to 36 hours of use.

Download the free app, and you can immediately start using your Smart Rope. The jump rope pairs with the application by Bluetooth, just by turning on the jump rope and launching the app.

Configuration

Once your rope is lit, and therefore linked to the application, you can rename your object (in case you have several jump ropes, this is very practical). You then select your gender, age, height (in centimeters in the example) and weight (in kilograms in the example).

Once set up, the Smart Gym app gives you a workout estimate for you and directs you to the basic interface. Several, and more precisely 6 possibilities available to you. A small icon representing the jump rope at the top right of the interface will let you know the battery level.

First, the "Basic Count"Will allow you to access your results. Those of the day, the day before, or 3 months ago. You can choose to display your results based on the number of jumps made, the time it took you to complete them, or the calories you burned.
You can also from this tab launch your training of the day.

The second tab is called “Interval Training“, And allows you to access training with different skill levels: 3 beginners (a series of 50 jumps x 3, 100 × 4, or 150 × 4), or 4 confirmed (a series of 200 jumps x 4 , 300 × 4, 400 × 5 or 500 × 5). Each level determines a waiting time between each series. By selecting your level, you will also access the results per day for this level.

Then the tab "Awards", Which will allow you to be rewarded with trophies when you succeed in certain exercises for example.

The fourth tab is called “Competition”And allows you to compare your results with those of your friends, if you wish, but unfortunately this is only possible by affiliating your Facebook account with Smart Gym.

The "Leader Board”Will allow you to compare yourself to all Smart Rope users. Yes, all users around the world! This is quite funny, and the ranking in the form of Top 500 can be done according to jumps, calories burned, time or rewards, and displays your position in the ranking, even if you are last. If you have linked your Facebook with the application, you will also be able to access the ranking in relation to your friends.

Finally, the last and sixth tab is called “History". It allows you to display graphs of your results in order to assess your progress. You can therefore display your results by week, month, or even year.

What is interesting and innovative about the Smart Rope are these 23 LEDs, arranged in the middle of the jump rope. You may wonder the usefulness of these light bulbs? Quite simply, they will display you in a “ephemeral" a message when you jump, such as the number of jumps or calories burned.

Smart Rope against the competition

Tangram's Smart Rope competes with the smart health connected jump rope Sophia, by FitFox. We haven't tested it, but on paper, this one has pretty much the same characteristics, except for LEDs.

Conclusion

To conclude critically, this smart health connected jump rope still has a cost to take into account. Not everyone can invest nearly 100 euros in sports equipment such as a jump rope. In addition, the results on the application are only shared among Facebook friends, which is a shame. For the messages that appear thanks to the LEDs, it must be admitted that it is a little useless gadget .. you will waste more time concentrating on reading the message during your jump, than succeeding in doing so. But overall, there are not many negative points to this rope.

To finish positively, this jump rope is useful and aesthetic. The application is simple to configure and use, and above all free and available on Android and iOS. Your jump rope can be carried everywhere in your protective cover, and the battery life will allow you to use it for several days without thinking of recharging it. In addition, the rope goes out by itself after 5 minutes of inactivity!
