Unboxing of the Orbi
The Orbi is wrapped in a rather flexible and soft white cardboard, on which its name is written, followed by its slogan: “Better Wi-Fi. Everywhere”. Which could be translated as “A better WiFi network. All over". It also indicates in English the category in which the Orbi is placed: "High Performance Tri-Band Wi-Fi System", or Wi-Fi Tri-band High Performance Network.
On the back, you can see a description as well as a diagram explaining the operation of the device. Four icons summarize the interest of the product.
The Orbi box, also made of cardboard, includes the name of the product in the same color as the latter, either navy blue.
It contains several devices: a smart health connected router, a satellite (which allows you to extend your network), power supplies, an Ethernet socket (for faster internet connection) as well as a user manual for installation.
To favor a fast connection, both the satellite and the router have four Ethernet ports. In addition, they each have a USB 2.0 port.
Design and ergonomics of the Orbi
The Orbi has a discreet and elegant design. With its color close to off-white, it can blend in with the decor and be in harmony with the environment in which it is found. It arises vertically and does not need any special support.
Aesthetically speaking, this changes a lot from conventional Wi-Fi routers in the form of boxes. Indeed, they are often rectangular and have plastic finishes. Its rather smooth and pleasant to the touch synthetic material strongly suggests a mixture of silicone and rubber.
If you are carrying the Orbi, for a move for example, be aware that the two devices each weigh 900 grams. They are easily held by hand and are easy to transport thanks to their rather ergonomic elongated shape.
Note that these are two different devices. They must be smart health connected independently to two separate sockets.
Installation
Before use, we can talk about the installation. On the one hand, the router connects to a power supply as well as to the Internet source (usually the modem) via an Ethernet cable to ensure network connection. Once the two cables are installed, just press the Power button to enjoy an exceptionally fast connection. After ignition, the latter flickers with a green diode which proves that the Orbi is smart health connected to the mains.
After installing the router, just plug in the satellite. the two devices will then have to pair. If the pairing is successful, a blue beam will appear for a few minutes and disappear. This does not mean any particular problem: the connection is always effective.
Several colors can be displayed depending on the distance. If orange is displayed, the connection between the two is average and it is advisable to bring them together. If purple is displayed, the satellite cannot be smart health connected to the router. For the Review, we had placed the router on the second floor and moved the satellite to the basement. the connection remained intact on the ground floor. However, once in the basement, the satellite no longer detected the router.

We were able to Review the speed, the latency as well as the reception time of the different connections used. First, our network, then the router. It should however be noted that it is essential to have an internet box, for the product to work. It does not serve as a connection modem.

Efficiency and speed of connection remain the watchwords. Netgear presents here a most convincing product both aesthetically and in terms of its functionality.
Once on the Internet on the Internet, a web page is displayed and explains the steps to follow. As with software, the conditions of use must be accepted to continue the router configuration.
When configuring the Orbi, the connection mode is detected in order to pair the product (here the phone) to the Internet. Then, a connection Review is performed in order to pair the satellite with the router.
Contact details must then be entered in a form: an administrator password must be set up to connect to the router's web interface. Several data should be mentioned, such as security issues for example.

The Orbi facing the competition
Its first competitor, the Asus AC5300 has a similar power to the tested model, on its Tri-Band system. It integrates three bandwidths like the Orbi. They speed up the connection speed. The first is clocked at 2.4 Ghz, while the last two are clocked at 5 Ghz.
It can have a bandwidth allowing to exceed 5 300 Megabytes per second against 4000 of the Orbi, with its four Ethernet sockets. The three-band system is useful for connecting multiple devices simultaneously on the same wireless connection. The Smart Connect system, integrated into the router, automatically manages the fastest and most efficient bandwidth among the three included.
With its Broadcomm NitroQAM technology, it allows all users to play online ehealth games with low latency (60% drop in ping) but also to watch series in streaming or lives in 4K / UHD. Compared to the previous generation of Tri-Band router, the one that appeared this year boosts performance. It promises an increase in speed (up to 67% in comparison, 5300 Mps against 2600 previously).
At CES 2017 in Las Vegas, the Norton Core was presented. Developed by Symantec, it also figures as an ideal competitor.
Tariff level, the two manufacturers are neck and neck. Netgear offers its product for a sum of around 400 €. As for the Symantec device, it is found at around 300 €.
However, the antivirus brand plans to offer a subscription security service for $ 10 per month, in addition to the product. It would all cost $ 120 a year.
Even if the Norton Core is more expensive with the subscription, the router is virus protected. A service absent from its competitor.
