With the "Microsoft Band" the company from Redmond has just announced a fitness tracker, which also offers common smartwatch features. The wearable is compatible with Windows, iOS and Android smartphones. Rumors of a Microsoft smartwatch have been around for a long time.
Microsoft's band connects to the smartphone via Bluetooth 4.0 and can be operated via a 1.4-inch display with a resolution of 320 × 106 pixels. Thanks to a built-in microphone, it is also possible to use Microsoft's Cortana voice assistant to enter appointments or ask for directions to the nearest McDonalds.

Since the wearable's focus is on physical exercise, a total of ten sensors were installed – including a heart rate monitoring, a UV sensor and a sensor that measures body temperature. As a personal fitness coach, the Microsoft Band monitors the user's pulse throughout the day, analyzes how well you sleep at night and records every movement while jogging, hiking or biking using the integrated GPS module. The measured data are bundled within "Microsoft Health" – a service à la Google Fit or Apple HealthKit.
On his smartwatch page The Microsoft Band offers common features such as notifications via email, SMS, calls, Facebook and Twitter messages and the creation of reminders and appointments. The timer and stopwatch can also be set by voice input.

Microsoft promises a battery life of up to 48 hours, the charging process should take less than 1.5 hours. The Microsoft tape is protected against dust and splash water, but the company does not provide any information on the exact IP certification.
