The regional daily La Dépêche du Midi unveils the conclusion of a new independent study commissioned by the mayor of Blagnac (a town adjoining the Toulouse metropolis, in Haute-Garonne) around the supposed dangerousness of the Linky meter. One of the recurring objections to the installation of this meter is indeed its level of electromagnetic emissions unbearable according to some people said electro-sensitive. We already mentioned on our blog about an electro-sensitive couple forced to move after installing this meter. However, Linky differs from this point of view from the conventional wheel counter only in that it transmits the readings to Enedis via the Line Carrier Current (CPL).
Linky is safe for health, new study finds
A technology known to freenautes and other individuals who use PLC sockets to connect smart health connected equipment to the internet in parts far from their homes. The "problem" is that the PLC adds a frame to the three-phase current, and it is this frame, at high frequency, which is accused of significantly increasing the levels of electromagnetic radiation emitted by these devices and therefore also the counter. Linky who also uses this technology. So far, no study has succeeded in demonstrating that these emissions are of any danger to health. This does not prevent various independent players from regularly ordering new measures.
However, once again the surveys carried out by the firm Exem (domiciled in Greater Toulouse) do not allow us to conclude that there is any danger: "The measurement of the magnetic field around a health home is 0.0095 microtesla while the regulatory value allows up to 6.25 microtesla", say our colleagues from La Dépêche. And to add that for the electric field we are at 0.24 volts per meter "When it is allowed up to 87 volts per meter". Of course, it would be quite useful to access detailed results – the article in the Dispatch only gives very few details on the conditions under which these measurements were made.

Second campaign of measurements to know if the remote transmissions of Linky are dangerous
Furthermore, we really do not know to what extent the company Exem in question, winner of the Enedis competition in 2015 as she posts on her website, is really independent of the person responsible for the installations of the Linky meter. However, we learn that the mayor probably does not want to stop there and will launch a second campaign of measurements during the teletransmission of the readings to observe or not an increase in emissions and if it remains within the authorized limits. Case to follow…
