His crowdfunding campaign was a real success. With $ 370,001 raised since June 2014, LaMetric has more than exceeded the $ 69,000 originally hoped for. An enthusiasm that touched 2,215 contributors on Kickstarter, seduced by the futuristic clock developed by the team of the English start-up Smart Atoms. Unboxing by LaMetric TIME

At first glance, it's hard not to believe in a new trendy gadget tool, designed to appeal to spending addicts on new technologies. However, by opening the box, as always, curiosity takes over.

Inside a careful cardboard packaging, the bar is dormant. At his side, a whole supply of food is provided. Namely, a micro USB cable accompanied by two types of power outlets. In the middle of everything, there is a very brief tiny notice. The two drawings which appear there do not teach you much, except that it will be necessary to turn to the online manual, accessible from the application, to get around on your own.

LaMetric Time design and ergonomics

The first grip reveals a soft touch. Matt black in color, the object has a sober, elegant design and a very slender ergonomics which allows it to land on any side. It contains the essential buttons of the typical clock radio. On the top, a play / pause action button is surrounded by two other arrow buttons, useful for scrolling through applications and making settings. On each side there are two sound outputs with a volume control (- / +) on the left and the ignition button on the right.

First use LaMetric Time

First of all, you will need to download the LaMetric application on your smartphone or tablet (available on the Apple Store and Android). Once obtained, you will be asked to create an account to access the digital platform of the product. After this step, you still have to connect the product to your smartphone or tablet via the Wi-Fi network issued by LaMetric. A perilous phase which caused us some problems during the Review. The device then configures itself automatically before revealing a very well-designed user interface.

After this configuration, the first basic functions scroll on the screen. The time and date are indicated as well as other meteorological information such as temperature (today and tomorrow), sunshine, wind force or the humidity of the air. Very practical data, searchable at a glance before leaving health home, illustrated by small colored icons (animated or not) which make the hallmark of this smart clock.

Besides this information, other functions are available by clicking on the top of the box: a timer, a stopwatch, and a clock radio compatible with more than 3000 stations around the world. All these functions are accessible using the two arrows located on the top of the bar, or directly on the LaMetric application, by selecting their respective icons. Note that each application can be placed in a particular order, the user can even decide to display only one or more of them on the monitoring, and to let them scroll or not.

Always more functions

Functions not really exceptional, but the best is yet to come. After familiarizing yourself with the mobile application, which is also very intuitive, you quickly understand that its designers wanted to maximize the usefulness of their product. Dozens of widget functions can be added with a single click. Facebook, Twitter or Gmail are exported to your bar and alerts you to the slightest like, retweet or email received thanks to a scrolling message.

Functions put forward by the manufacturer who explains wanting to seduce pros and individuals by allowing them direct access to their information, without taking the laptop out of his pocket. But in reality it is no longer the opposite effect that is observed, since these notifications encourage you to take your smartphone out to find out more. On the other hand, from a professional point of view, it is an excellent tool to stay informed on certain evolutionary data such as the number of likes, retweet or even for example on the evolution of stock prices. However, this always means keeping it close to you.

Other functions are just as useful in everyday life as those allowing scroll through personal messages continuously. Very useful to remember to go shopping or to explain to your roommate that we will be back in 30 minutes. Whatever a simple post-it might be enough … When it comes to sound, the two Bluetooth speakers fulfill their role well by broadcasting a clear sound, via radio or a playlist played from your smartphone or tablet.

Appearance of the interface

On this side here, we can say that the manufacturer has succeeded in a nice move. Even if the appearance will not suit everyone, it leaves no one indifferent. With its colored LEDs, LaMetric displays a vintage video game look thanks to its small pixelated squares. A display mode that leaves plenty of room for the imagination of its users, who can choose from predefined shapes and images or even create their own images from the mobile application. A real seductive asset for the manufacturer.

In addition to these pixelated animations, a wide choice of sounds is also available to the user who is free to personalize their smart health connected clock, in particular to alert them of new notifications, as on their smartphone. The brightness of the interface is also adjustable from the application. Yet even at low intensity the light emitted remains very bright, and could have greatly disturbed the lightest sleeps if the developers had not had the idea of ​​creating a special application to make the device completely dark.
