Do you want to sell a product for download?Wellness, health, fitness……How to sell digital health products online?
You may be wondering how you are going to charge your customers and how they will access your product without having to monitor your site 24 hours a day?
Don’t panic: just follow the guide …
First of all, here, I’m not going to talk to you about the online stores that cost the eye. No more than WordPress extensions that any fun can offer in affiliation.
In this article, the solutions can be used regardless of the CMS used.
What does it take to sell on the web?
OK, you wrote a great sales page. Your visitor will arrive at the bottom and, all feverish, will buy by clicking there, on the big button.
Yes, but…
How to choose an online payment system?
When your visitor clicks on the “buy” button, he is taken to a secure payment interface.
Once he has paid, he should be able to access the product he just bought right away.
No question of having to send you an email afterwards. Immediate access, nothing else.
Which digital health products to sell?
Your product can be just about anything:
an ebook
smart health software, plugin, script in PHP…
an audio file
a video
a subscription to a newsletter
As long as it’s 100% digital, you should be able to deliver it electronically. And automatically.
Ideally, your product should be inaccessible to those who have not paid. In other words, if you put your product for download on a page, a user who knows the address of this page should NOT have the opportunity to access your product.
The solutions tested
Knowing all this, here are some solutions for selling your digital products online.
.PayHip
.Gumroad
.The simple PayPal button
PayHip
Among the dozens of systems that do the same thing, PayHip has strengths.
WHAT IS PAYHIP?
Payhip is a web platform developed in the United Kingdom. It allows to sell its dematerialized products (ebooks, music…). After paying, the customer receives an email with a download link that allows them to collect their purchase. If the platform is not specialized in the marketing of ebooks, it has the advantage of offering an easily customizable space to the seller and of taking a commission of only 5%.
And few faults.
I like this system. Its pricing is simple and its features fun to help sell, without taking the head too much. Obviously, many of these functions are gadgets that simplify life a little, but nothing more.
Benefits
Very easy to use: classic. A priori, you will not need to consult the few chick support pages.
Promotional codes or reductions “social” via a “share” or a “tweet” (nice. Not tried.)
Statistics with conversion rate and all the tintouin.
Customizable product page. It’s not really a landing page, but it’s not too bad. Nothing more.
Protection against hacking of ebooks by automatically inserting the buyer’s email address at the top of each page (not 100% protection against sharing, but that prevents naughty people from putting the ebook for free download or from reselling it as what)
Possibility to put a product in “Pay What You Want”: that’s great. I did it and it worked.
You can provide an excerpt from an ebook. I prefer to give an excerpt if we subscribe to my list. But hey, it’s only me!
Direct sending on Kindle. A nice gadget: your buyer gives his Kindle email address and presto, the book is sent directly to his Kindle library.
Disadvantages
The functions are nice, but very “gimmicky”: sending to Kindle requires “whitelister” a PayHip address.
Cost of a sale
PayHip takes 5% on transactions. Payment is made on PayPal and this 5% is removed once PayPal has taken its tithe.
Gumroad
Gumroad was created a few years ago by an awesome kid. This is the TYPICAL example of the ideal model and that the gurus of the web strive to make you forget (hint: it is to sell you stuff that you do not need. And you, like an idiot, you even tell them thank you).
Gumroad started out as a very simple system for paying for a digital product online and downloading it right away.
Nothing more, nothing less. They bet everything on the interface and the speed of execution.
When it worked, they listened to their customers and added functionality.
Gumroad is awesome.
He has exactly what it takes to get started.
And exactly the power to move upmarket, once your business is running.
It even replaces newsletters tools.
And WordPress plugins to manage content by subscription.
It actually has so many REAL functions REALLY useful for building your business.
All in a simple interface. And the part visible to your visitors is 100% in French.
Benefits:
Sell directly without leaving your site. On one of my accommodations, I have an SSL certificate. And this solution is downright pro.
You can sell subscriptions and have your content filtered as you go. In a guide, I explain that a Newsletter is like a 2nd blog with content reserved for subscribers. This is exactly this approach.
Integration with lots of third-party tools (native or via Zapier)
Ultra simple system for users.
Downloadable content protected against basic piracy (buyer’s email included in the PDF document sold) and accessible only to customers
100% online availability possible: if you want, you can prohibit downloading and only make your products available online (PDF, video or audio streaming …)
Rentals: yes, sir. You can rent your videos in streaming for 30 days. Not bad for a free or € 1 trial version.
Lots of other things, but I’ll let you discover them for yourself
Disadvantages
Payment only by bank card. Not a problem in most cases, except that Gumroad is not very well known in France. When I used it, I had a few requests for alternatives from people who didn’t trust them. And to be frank, when I discovered the beast a few years ago, I had a step back, in front of this completely refined interface: email, card numbers and that’s it.
Minimum payment $ 10 and only once a week. Very annoying if you do punctual operations.
Gumroad is not expensive compared to other solutions.
Even that it includes PayPal fees. Because we are only paid by Gumroad on PayPal. And we don’t have the benefits of PayPal (automatic visitor trust).
But let’s say you get what you pay for.
Their model is clever, by the way: as they are the ones who pay the sellers each week, they have a significant volume … PayPal fees are decreasing, they win. While another system (like PayHip, for example, takes a lower commission for each sale.
Anyway, you got it. I love Gumroad.
I like their “all-in” approach very much. They lock up their clients, but in a rather virtuous circle:
You use Gumroad => You sell => You use additional functions => You sell even more => You continue to use Gumroad.
As much as you can go from one solution to another without warning and without jeopardizing your business, you always have great news with Gumroad.
The PayPal button
It’s very simple, but if you have a Premium or Business account on PayPal (and I advise you to upgrade your account if you have not already done so), you just need to create a purchase button directly from the PayPal site. You can redirect your brand new customer to a page where they can download their product as soon as they have paid.
Benefits:
Security: Payments are made on the PayPal site. It inspires confidence and is known worldwide.
Simple: You insert the button on your page and the one that clicks on it is sent to the payment page on the PayPal site. He can pay by PayPal balance if he has an account or by credit card.
Inexpensive solution. PayPal fees apply on the amount paid. But it is always less than the other solutions.
Flexible: on the download page, you can also offer a “One Time Offer”, that is to say another product at a very reduced price, such as a special offer reserved for customers.
What is a One Time Offer?
Let’s explain: after his payment, your client is sent to a page on which he is offered to download the product or to buy in addition ANOTHER product on which you make a special offer, an offer at a reduced price. If he purchases this second product, he is sent to another download page, on which he can download his 2 products.
Disadvantages
The download page is not protected from hacking. A user who knows the link on this page could access the product without paying.
Only the upload to a download page is made. No automatic newsletter subscription, no confirmation email with the download link.
Not really VAT management on digital products. You have to type everything yourself. A priori, not too serious for the moment if you sell very little. But one day, taxes will fall on you, as sure as my name is Vincent. So watch out!
Cost of a sale:
If you sell a product for $ 100, it will cost you $ 3.65. For a product at $ 25, it will cost you $ 1.10. And for a product at $ 7, each payment will be cut by 45 cents.
