Hipp combiotik 2 -the brand with organic products also has its follow-on milk
Hipp combiotik 2 is a follow-on milk (formerly called 2nd age milk) intended to meet the nutritional needs of infants from 6 to 12 months old within a diversified diet. We analyzed and then compared with other products on the market the composition, ease of use and price of this milk, which tries to convey a strong emphasis on naturalness.

Composition of Hipp combiotik 2 (Combiotic 2）
Energy
HIPP CombioticⓇ 2 milk provides an intake of 70 kcal per 100 ml of drink * and therefore covers, depending on the child’s age, the amount of powder and the frequency of feeding bottles, from 42 to 71% of the recommended daily intake. . The rest will be provided by food.
These values, regulated by legislation, are roughly similar for all the products in this comparison. CombioticⓇ 2 is one of the highest in the study and is at the maximum authorized limit that best meets the needs of the infant.
Protein
The share of proteins in follow-on milks (formerly 2nd age milk) is an important element. The cow’s milk used for their preparation is richer in protein than breast milk. Manufacturers must therefore adapt this concentration to Baby’s needs and elimination capacity.
The protein intake of CombioticⓇ 2 is 1.5 g per 100 ml of milk *, or approximately 8.6% of the energy intake of the drink. They are average for our comparison and therefore avoid the somewhat high dosages found in some products on the market.
Lipids
HiPP contains 3.5 g of lipids per 100 ml of milk * or 45% of energy intake. While this is one of the highest values in our comparison, it is above all their distribution that interests us.
These lipids are provided by vegetable oils of palm, rapeseed and sunflower from organic farming. Palm oil comes from sustainable agriculture which should meet the ecological concerns of many parents. It contains palmitic acid which is also found in breast milk. Note that some brands such as Nestlé Nidal or Physiolac offer milks without palm oil.
The proportion of saturated fatty acids represents around 14% of the energy intake of milk *. This is a value in the mean of our study which is rather satisfactory.
In terms of polyunsaturated fatty acids, we find a quantity of linoleic acid (omega 6 family) among the highest in this study, which departs from the latest recommendations.
That of alpha-linolenic acid (omega 3 family) is also high but remains in line with our expectations. Finally, we regret the absence of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), the addition of which is however recommended today.
Carbohydrates
Hipp CombioticⓇ 2 milk contains 7.9 g of carbohydrates per 100 ml of drink *, including 7.6 g of lactose. These values will be discussed in the “Digestibility” part of this article.
Vitamins and minerals
The vitamin and mineral intakes found in CombioticⓇ 2 are sufficient to cover the recommended daily doses when added to those of the diet.
The only exception comes from vitamin D, the dosage of which is struggling to meet our expectations. It is slightly below the average for our study.
Other contributions
This milk adheres to the minimum required by legislation and does not incorporate optional components such as carnitine, inositol or nucleotides found in other products in this study, but whose usefulness is often questioned.
Additions of fiber and a strain of probiotics (Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum) will be discussed in the “Digestibility” section.
Finally, note that HiPP CombioticⓇ 2 does not contain allergens except for the logical presence of lactose (no lecithin from soya, fish, etc.).

Use
HiPP CombioticⓇ 2 is sold in jars of 900 g of powder in pharmacies and drugstores as well as in large retailers . You can consult our price comparison at the bottom of the page.
The pot is metallic, closed with a flexible and transparent lid. We found it much less practical than those of the Gallia Calisma 2 or Blédilait 2nd age type which are equipped with a device to store the measuring cup. Here, you will have to put and fetch the pod in the powder which, in our opinion, is not the best in terms of hygiene.
This pot has a wide leveling edge which in turn turns out to be quite effective in adjusting the amount of powder taken (see our test below). The scoop avoids being overfilled, so the dosage can easily be respected.
It takes 30ml of water per 4.7g scoop of powder to make up the drink.
HiPP laboratories offer an indicative dosage of 2 to 3 bottles of 7 scoops and 210 ml of water per day. The quantities as well as the frequency of the catches are however to be adapted to the needs of Baby by a health professional.
We had no problem preparing the bottle. Once reconstituted, it is to be consumed immediately and the rest (if the child does not finish) should be discarded.
The jar can be stored for 3 weeks after opening, provided it is properly closed and kept in a dry place away from heat.
The health claims visible on the packaging of this milk must once again be put into perspective.
The manufacturer has chosen to highlight the presence of vitamins A, C and D as well as omega 3, which refers to the immune system or to good brain and nervous development. These components are necessarily found in follow-on milks, so this is not a particularity of CombioticⓇ 2, especially since the quantities found are not all to its advantage.
In terms of labeling, we regret the lack of indications regarding the amounts of caseins or probiotics. This information is however useful for the consumer.
Hipp’s CombioticⓇ 2 milk is made in Germany.
Digestibility
The good digestibility of follow-on milk remains something difficult to assess as it depends on the individual factor. However, some additions or quantities of components can be commented on.
CombioticⓇ 2 contains 7.60 g of lactose per 100 ml of milk * which is well above the average for our study. Transit could therefore be accelerated and colic favored if their origin comes from poor digestion of this sugar.
The presence of prebiotic fibers, here 0.4 g of galacto-oligosaccharides, could lead to an increase in the frequency of stools, which would be useful in case of constipation. However, the clinical relevance of such an addition is still debated.
This is also the case with probiotics, of which only a few well-studied strains seem to have positive effects on infant colic. Here, the benefits of using Lactobacillus fermentum hereditum are not very well documented and the amounts used are not given. It is therefore difficult to derive any benefit from it.

Combiotic Price
Baby organic milks are generally slightly more expensive than more traditional formulas, and HiPP CombioticⓇ 2 is no exception to the rule. With an average price of € 18.34 * for a 900 g jar, or around € 2 * per day for a dosage of 3 bottles of 7 scoops, it ranks among the most expensive milks in this comparison.
Combiotic 2: our opinion
If it claims to be formulated on “the model of nature”, the composition of HiPP CombioticⓇ 2 milk did not particularly appeal to us, and its lipid composition has something to do with it. The Organic Agriculture label, for its part, can represent an asset in the eyes of parents concerned with ecology or wishing to feed their child (ren) with organic food.
