Weenect cats arrives in a rectangular box of reasonable size. A cat in front with the indication that the product is a GPS collar for cats leaves no doubt.

Application of the Weenect Cats

Installation is quick and easy, instructions are given to connect the tag to the application, this is where the difficulty comes.

The application is simple, clear and pleasant to look at. In green and orange, it works very well and can easily detect several animals at the same time. Above all, it allows you to know where your pet is. For this, different methods are proposed. In a small village at the foot of Sainte Baume, the accuracy of this device is about twenty meters, but sometimes in a completely opposite direction which completely annihilates the compass application. The map

It allows you to quickly and easily see where your animal is located on a map. A dog's paw indicates the position, it can be seen from the application or from the website. By clicking on it you can read:

• the last location search performed by the device
• the exact address of the animal
• GPS coordinates
• the battery level

It is possible to choose between a view called “plan”Or a view“satellite“.

Compass

It behaves like an improved compass. We can distinguish the distance between us and the animal and an arrow indicates the direction in which we should look for it. Simple and effective, it is useful when its four-legged friend is not far away but not within sight.

The radar

It allows you to find your cat in “augmented reality” mode. In other words, the camera on your smartphone turns on, an arrow with the name of the animal you are looking for appears on the screen and you can search for the animal in the same way as Pokémon Go. Simple and effective, not to mention that it is pretty amusing.

The itinerary

By pressing this button, Google Maps gets started and offers you a route who will take you back to your pet.

Alerts

The device can give many alerts. First of all, it tells you when the battery is low with a pop-up notification and an email, you can also request SMS notifications at an additional cost.

Then, you can be alerted of the location of your pet by triggering a ring or a vibration of the collar. Ideal when hidden in the house. To do this, you must be in “real time” mode, less economical for the battery but necessary to obtain the ring tone immediately.

Finally, it is possible toset up alerts by creating perimeters from which the animal must not leave. To do this, simply create in the application or from the site, a "zone". It is necessary to choose the diameter of the zone by section of fifty meters and to move it by pressing on the center of the created circle. From then on, you can be warned in case of exit or entry in the area by an alert.

This alert is sometimes very long to come in the villages and the animal is then several hundred meters from the set limit.

The phone

From the application, you can press the phone button. You are then asked to enter a telephone number in international format (+33 6). This gives the tag the order to call you, so you can talk to your cat who can hear you from the built-in speaker. This option did not work during the Review, the cause of the problem is unknown, probably due to a GSM connection, always more or less difficult in the field.

Activity tracking

It only works if the GPS connection is good, otherwise only the walking time is counted. On the other hand, with a good network, the average speed, the maximum speed and the distance are listed in addition to the travel time. Two graphics show this information and a map draws the route followed. Quite realistic, these data are useful for knowing where your dog goes when he goes alone for a walk or for recording his own walks with his four-legged friend.

The other possibilities

The application offers other setting options. It is thus possible to choose the animal on which one wishes to concentrate. A “settings” tab also allows you to set a certain number of points: the name of the animal, the email address and the telephone number on which the notifications will be sent and finally, the events that will give rise to notification.

Using the Weenect Cats

The first ignition must be in a place well covered by the GPS otherwise it takes a while to figure out where the problem is coming from. However, a single button on the device makes it easy to turn the beacon on and off by following the instructions in the user manual. From then on, it is enough to relight the beacon in a more open place and voila.

For the rest, two diodes allow you to understand the reactions of the tag, just look at the meaning of the colors on the user guide. Nothing else needs to be done on the device, use is therefore limited and easy.

Battery life

The mode chosen influences the battery life

• In “real time” mode : the beacon gives its position every ten seconds. It must then be recharged every 12 hours.
• In “daily” mode : if the animal does not move, the position is raised every five minutes, every minute if it is moving. The autonomy is then about 36 hours.
• Sleep mode" : the GPS is off and does not record the position unless you refresh the position manually. The battery then lasts about four days.

The charging time is approximately four hours if you connect the support to the mains. However, if you plug it into a computer, it takes a little more time.

Weenect cats versus Tractive GPS 2?

Aesthetic level, the Tractive GPS 2 is more discreet with its black color. On the other hand, the two sizes are equal, the Weenect is longer, the Tractive is wider.

Regarding handling, the two devices are as easily apprehended as the other. Both applications have advantages and disadvantages but many common points. Above all, they are as simple to use as each other.

Utility level, in a village, the Weenect is unquestionably more precise (about 40 meters) than the Tractive, which is only precise by the kilometer. This difference disappears in town, concerning the functionalities then, the two offer a compass, only the Weenect offers the possibility of a route but the Tractive allows the diode to light up, a precious help in the middle of the night. However, even if the Review does not reveal it, the possibility of calling your cat is very nice. A decisive point for the Weenect Cats.

Conclusion

The Weenect Cats, once tested, turns out to be very interesting on many points. First of all, it offers many possibilities to find your animal. Then it is supposed to allow him to speak. Finally, in town, it is very precise in all its functionality. On the other hand, in the field, precision falls, utility is diminished and the device is of little interest. With a price of 149 euros plus subscription, it is advisable for cats who have a satellite focused on their city only.
