In an interview with CNET, Greg McKelvey and Steve Prokup, respectively head of the sales division and vice-president in charge of smart health connected devices at Fossil, unveil the brand’s future plans. This fall, Fossil plans to market a high-end smart health connected watch under Wear, the new operating system from Google, designed on the basis of Tizen, the OS from Samsung. This Fossil Gen 6 is expected to cost more than previous models, with new features premium like 4G compatibility.
Old abandoned watches
This new Fossil watch promises to be enticing, but it is not the most interesting information of this interview. Asked about the future of previous Fossil watches, the brand’s officials say they expect to stop their marketing in favor of the future Gen 6.
They will not also receive the new update, Fossil preferring to focus on the new model. In a world where software obsolescence is often criticized, this decision by Fossil is very unwelcome, especially since the latest model costs 299 euros.

Should you buy a Fossil watch? If the manufacturer doesn’t offer updates and encourages you to change your model every year, that doesn’t sound like a good idea to us. Hopefully, by this fall, Samsung and why not Google have launched their own watches under the new Wear OS.
