Flow – A tiny device to monitoring air quality

Back at CES this year, Plume Labs has unveiled Flow, a small device that you can carry with you from anywhere to monitoring the air pollution that surrounds you.

Flow can be attached directly to a backpack to measure fine PM2.5 particles, PM10 particles, nitrogen dioxide and chemicals. All this data is obviously accessible via an application which allows users to monitoring the quality of the air they breathe.

But how can all this information help you? In fact, Flow will alert you to sudden changes and advise you to leave the area or wear a mask. In addition to the smartphone app, small LEDs on the device will allow you to see alerts in real time.

What is perhaps most interesting is that each device is part of a large set of devices that somehow creates a map of global air pollution. This therefore makes it possible to create truly reliable maps in real time.

Plume Labs tested its product on the streets of London. The company worked with environmental scientists at Imperial College London. For their tests, they used a few Flow prototypes to create these famous air pollution maps. In three months, they covered 20 percent of central London. Finally, parallel tests have proven the device’s accuracy and usefulness.

If this product interests you, know that it is available for pre-order at a price of 140 dollars; instead of 200 dollars. It is quite expensive, but if you are interested in this issue, this product is a good investment. In addition, with the number of early deaths caused by air pollution, this device may one day become essential.
