This Disney smartwatch can identify everything you touch! Disney's research department has in fact developed a prototype smartwatch that can detect any object you touch.
The Disney smartwatch works thanks to the conductivity of our body. Obviously, your watch needs a training period to know what you are touching, but once the watch is set up, it will know when you touch your phone, kettle, mouse or even a doorknob.
This watch also uses hyper-sensitive antennas which seek the low frequencies emitted by objects. Disney's white paper explains: “The detection range of the device is between 1 Hz – 28.8MHz, making it possible to detect low electromagnetic frequency signals present in many electrical and electromechanical objects. Personally, I find this technology pretty crazy, especially when you know that it comes straight from Disney.
The same white paper lists a lot of examples where this technology can be used, such as detecting that you do in the morning while drinking your coffee, when you open your door, etc. Ultimately, this Disney smartwatch turns the world around you into an ultimate geo-location sensor based on what you touch.
For now, all of this is just a prototype and a concept. But who knows, maybe we will see this technology arriving in some consumer devices.
