Definition | Pandemic | Futura Health

A pandemic (from the Greek pan = all and demos = people) is a epidemic which covers almost the entire population of a continent or several continents, and in some cases even the planet.

Several pandemics have affected humanity: the plague black (or bubonic plague) which caused several million deaths in Europe, between 1346 and 1350, the influenza Spanish from 1918 to 1920 which killed 15 million by spreading from China to Japan, Russia, Europe and then North America.

After infecting 40 million people, the AIDS is now considered a pandemic; it seems to have become the deadliest in human history.
