The norovirus are virus of the family Caliciviridae. The term norovirus was chosen because of the description of this virus in Norwalk, Ohio. Noroviruses have a genome in the form of an RNA single-stranded.

Pathologies linked to noroviruses

Noroviruses, very contagious, are responsible for gastroenteritis acute in humans. The symptoms related to these infections are vomiting and diarrhea. The healing usually occurs spontaneously within a few days. The disease can be more severe in immunocompromised people.

In Europe, norovirus infections are seasonal. Noroviruses are responsible forgastroenteritis epidemics which can take place in community, following the contamination food or water. In fact, the noroviruses present in the discharges can contaminate water, but also shellfish (oysters, etc.), plants (salad, fruit, etc.). The molluscs can concentrate these viruses and present a significant risk of contamination.
