Dassault Systèmes simulates air flows at Pitié-Salpêtrière to reduce the risk of exposure

Dassault Systèmes, a subsidiary of the aeronautics manufacturer specializing in software for 3D design, is betting on the simulation of air flows at the AP-HP to verify the measures to reduce the risks of exposure to Sars-Cov-2 taken in its hospitals, in care spaces and among those reserved for staff.

The simulation should make it possible “to optimize the protective measures taken by the AP-HP teams, such as the temporary modification of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems”, explained Dassault Systèmes in its press release.

To do this, the manufacturer has made its 3D simulation solutions available to Pitié-Salpêtrière, and in particular its Simulia software range.

Dassault Systèmes’ Simulia simulation software was used to model and analyze air flows as well as droplet and aerosol deposits in a room.

“The simulation work made it possible to determine the optimal solution among those envisaged: the combination of an individualized extraction on each infected patient, of an air flow system similar to that which the architect imagined for a Parisian restaurant. , and local partitioning, “detailed the subsidiary.

Before Pitié-Salpêtrière, another Parisian hospital had tested the tool: “this project has already made it possible to reorganize a de-chocking room at the Bichat-Claude-Bernard hospital (AP-HP), to optimize the orientation of patient beds, to help understand surface contamination and to add air filtration systems in the context of an unprecedented health crisis, ”Dassault Systèmes announced.

“In the coming weeks, Dassault Systèmes will simulate and identify the risks of virus propagation in two hospital catering rooms of the AP-HP in order to be able to recommend measures aimed at strengthening those already in place for the hospital staff, “the manufacturer also said.

Simulation is the backbone of Dassault Systèmes in its healthcare activities, we remind.
