What you will learn
Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock unboxing
The Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock is packed in a fairly standard cardboard box. It presents a white and orange color scheme which highlights the distinctions the product has received. Indeed, it is part of the French Tech label and therefore carries its characteristic logo in the shape of a rooster.
It also recalls the fact that the alarm clock was a finalist of the Google Science Fair in 2014. A remarkable distinction for its creator Guillaume Rolland, who was not yet an adult when he created the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock.
Going back to the packaging, it doesn't have too many elements. This reflects the ease of use of the product. You will only find the alarm clock itself in a cardboard support protecting it and the cable allowing to connect it to the power supply just below.
At the bottom of the box, there is also the fragrance capsule offered to operate the product. For this Review, we had access to the "toast" capsule. With the sachet containing the capsule, there is also the user manual which is meant to be short given the nature of the product.
The outside of the box also provides information on the use and functionality of the product. It is possible, just by reading the box, to know what are the possibilities of awakening olfactory Sensorwake and how it works.
Design of the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock
The alarm clock has a rather classic look. Square, it has a digital screen which is used both to display the current time, the time of the programmed alarm, and a pictogram in the shape of a cloud of smoke which informs the user of when the device broadcasts a smell.
Beyond the smell and the sound, it is also capable of diffusing light to accompany the user's waking. This is projected from the gutter which surrounds the dial of the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock.
Above the product are the keys used to program it. The clock allows you to enter the current time, the lamp activates or deactivates the night mode, and the alarm clock allows you to decide the time at which the olfactory alarm will be triggered.
Below the device, you can recognize the tip used to connect the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock to the mains. The fact that this tip is below the product and not at the back may be surprising, but the wire is protected by a recess in which it can be embedded to avoid placing the alarm clock on it.
In terms of ergonomics, the device is light and easy to transport. We can regret the fact that it cannot operate without being smart health connected to the mains, but the cable is long enough to allow you to place it on a bedside table or any other piece of furniture next to your bed.
Using the Sensorwake scent alarm clock
Very little to say that side, the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock is an extremely simple product to use. You don’t even need to download an app to make it work. Everything is explained in the manual, but even without it, anyone who has ever touched an alarm clock will instinctively operate it.
Just plug in the alarm clock, insert the capsule into the slot provided, and program it using the buttons on the top of the device as described above, and you can use it without any problems.
But what about its effectiveness? The smell emitted by the alarm clock during the alarm is rather pleasant. Difficult to guess which perfume is diffused without knowing in advance which capsule was inserted in the device. However, when you know it’s toast, we actually recognize the smell by mental association.
Difficult to judge the whole product by having tested a single capsule, but the one we were able to use is pleasant to smell. We avoid the pitfall of a smell that is too strong or heady and therefore unpleasant. On the other hand, make no mistake about it, this is not comparable to a real smell of toast when you wake up.
Speaking of awakening, difficult to wake up only with the smell diffuse. During the tests of the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock, the tester was not woken up by the diffused odor, but rather by the alarm which follows it. The reporter in question is quite sleepy, is that the problem? Difficult to know, but maybe if your sense of smell is highly developed, the device will have more effect on you.
Even if you're not woken up by the smell, the alarm and the light will do their job. You will still have the pleasure of having a pleasant smell when you wake up, which is the basic principle of the Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock. The alarm is not overly aggressive, it looks a lot like the 8-bit sounds you could hear on older portable consoles. We can regret the fact that we cannot choose our own ringtone, or at least to be able to choose from several proposals.
The Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock facing the competition
The Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock is rather unique on this market. Indeed, there are a myriad of smart health connected alarm clocks, but none offers to wake up its user with the diffusion of an odor. On the other hand, the product can be reminiscent of the AromaCare (a smart health connected essential oil diffuser), but the latter does not offer an alarm function.
Difficult, however, to justify the almost 100 € that the product costs from Sensorwake when you see that other alarm clocks, for the same price, offer much more diverse and useful smart health connected functions.
We told you about it during the launch of its fundraising campaign in October, the aptly named "Hello" from the start-up Hôli is an alarm clock that offers many more features : it is able to adapt to your habits and wake you up sooner or later depending on your program for the day or certain other criteria. It can also assume health home automation functions by controlling thermostats, for example. All for the same price: around 100 €.
Conclusion

Value for money: The Sensorwake olfactory alarm clock is an interesting product but its high cost makes it difficult to recommend compared to other smart health connected alarm clocks available. He will be able to convince you if you are really interested in his very particular function.
