A Firefox smartwatch? – The health home Automation Blog

The Firefox smartwatch looks like Firefox OS, the mobile operating system that competes with Android and iOS and that may also become wearble in the near future.

Joe Cheng of Mozilla announced the project in an interview with Computer World. He explained that Firefox’s desire was to expand its product line. Firefox OS has already broken into the low-cost smartphone market, and at CES 2015 it was announced that Panasonic would use the Firefox OS for its next Smart TV.

The Firefox OS seems ready to attack Android Wear but also Apple. Whether it's with its Firefox smartwatch or other wearble products. Mozilla seems to have a few more tricks up its sleeve.

Wearable technology must be paired with a smartphone to use it fully. To date, Android Wear communicates with Android smartphones and the Apple Watch with iPhones. Bad idea because those who have an iPhone and who would like to wear an Android Wear product will necessarily be disappointed. Joe Cheng explains that at Mozilla, the vision is quite different: "we want to break this barrier of the single brand".

Mozilla has not announced when we will be able to find wearables on Firefox OS or what these products will be. If the strategy is the same as for smartphones on Firefox OS, these wearable products should be affordable.
