Montblanc Summit 2+ Review -your affordable luxury smart watch

Montblanc Summit 2 plus Review luxury smart connected watch more efficient with eSIM and the almost affordable Wear OS 3100 processor.

Montblanc Summit 2+ review  your affordable luxury smart health connected watch

Launched at the same time as the new 3rd generation Tag Heuer smart health connected, the new Montblanc Summit 2+ is the third smartwatch under Wear Os. The first Summit was fairly trivial. Fortunately, the level of quality rose with the launch of the Montblanc Summit 2 that I adopted. It was the first smart health connected watch to embed the Qualcomm processor Snapdragon Wear 3100. An impeccable finish, but an autonomy which remains limited to one day.

Montblanc thus continues its diversification in smart health connected objects. With a foray also into audio with its new Montblanc MB 01 wireless headset, made of aluminum, fine leather and silicone ($ 780).

So what is this “Plus” model worth compared to other current Wear Os watches?

Montblanc Summit 2+ design and finishes

Aesthetically, a success which takes again the codes which made the success of the German mark. We find the design which is inspired by traditional Montblanc watches. There is a sapphire crystal, two push buttons (buttons) and one crown decorated with the embossed Montblanc logo that it’s nice to press and turn.

You also have the choice between four different models:

  • Steel with leather strap (class in all sobriety),
  • Black frame with black rubber strap (stealth mode, bad boy),
  • Rose gold case with cream leather strap (the female version),
  • Bronze – copper steel with khaki calfskin strap (the most original, adventurer style).

The size increased from 42 mm to 43.5 mm. It still has an AMOLED screen, but 1.28 inch instead of 1.2. If Montblanc made the right choice by offering models for men and women with the Summit 2, both its size and its finishes are more masculine.

Still using SoC Snapdragon Wear 3100 and with the Wear Os app, it adds card integration eSIM can be activated directly in the interface. A real asset, which makes it a world first.

  • Works with Android smartphones and iPhones (but honestly worse)
  • ESIM compatible (Android only)
  • Qualcomm processor Snapdragon Wear 3100
  • 1 GB RAM / 8 GB storage
  • Integrated GPS
  • Heart rate monitoring
  • Built-in speaker and microphone
  • Waterproof IPx8 (not suitable for swimming, especially since it has a beautiful leather strap)
  • Battery of 440 mAh, 30% improved autonomyis better, but it always requires recharging it every night.

Summit 2+ khaki and copper bronze

Overall the Summit 2 plus basically does everything the Montblanc Summit 2 done, including tracking your outdoor activity with built-in GPS and contactless payment. Montblanc also adds a speaker to allow you to listen to music and hear the responses to your queries on Google Assistant.

A quick scroll of the screens shows that there is not much new to point out in terms of the applications that you can expect to see preloaded. You continue to receive recommendations for maintaining your physical condition.

What is the point of eSIM?

The eSIM functionality allows you to have a virtual phone chip integrated into your watch, so it works completely autonomously. This allows you to make and receive calls, messages, and music continuously. The novelty, in addition to sharing the same number as your phone is that you can configure all this and activate LTE via the Wear Os app for the first time.

But, like most eSIM-compatible smartwatches, it does not work with all operators. For the launch of the Montblanc Plus, activation will be possible with some operators:

  • Orange in France and Spain,
  • Vodafone for the United Kingdom and Germany,
  • Verizon in the United States.

The Summit 2+ is of course usable without eSIM, with your Android laptop. Note that the eSIM function is not compatible with an iPhone.

Montblanc Summit 2 Plus classic

Price and availability

The new model should be available in April 2023 at a price of 1170 dollars. It may seem expensive, but the smart health connected version is a much more affordable way to have a Montblanc watch on your wrist. Indeed, classic models start at 3000 dollars.

It comes with the Summit 2+ watch, its magnetic charging base, a USB-C cable, the security manual, a quick installation guide and the warranty card.

Another option, the current version Summit 2 which can be found at less than 890 $ (introductory price 990 $) and have the price could drop a little more.

In an elegant feminine model, I recommend the very elegant range Michael Kors Access Runway for women, from 245 $.

First review Montblanc Summit 2+

There is no doubt that Montblanc now knows how to make a smart health connected watch sublime and efficient. The German company with this model offers affordable luxury (well, this remains luxury).

The larger screen is a welcome addition and connectivity via eSIM is an added advantage. But it’s still Wear Os and it means good and bad things. The bad ones are mainly an operating system that has not yet the polish and intuitiveness of its closest rivals. Then, the autonomy remains low, do not forget to charge it every evening.
