As announced, the California startup Pebble Technology today announced a new smartwatch. It bears the name Pebble time and is the third wristwatch from the portfolio after the Pebble Smartwatch and Pebble Steel. The biggest innovation is the colorful e-paper display.
Pebble Technology offers its latest wearable exclusively through the project finance platform Kickstarter on – like back then at the first watch. $ 500,000 was required for implementation. The goal was reached within 20 minutes. The campaign has now received $ 2.5 million – the money comes from over 14,000 supporters. The smallest financing package costs $ 159, and the watch will later be available in retail stores for $ 199. Speaking of which: Deliveries will only be made worldwide in May 2015, with the current buyers being served primarily. The promotion on Kickstarter is 31 days away, until then the pebble time is probably sold out, and the company has raised more than $ 8 million.
In contrast to previous Pebble watches, Pebble Time works with an e-paper display that 8 ^ 2 States, i.e. 64 colors. The manufacturer still promises a battery life of up to seven days – current smartwatches with Google's Android Wear OS only come in at 2.5 days. The display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass. The case is made of stainless steel and is 20 percent thinner than that of the Pebble smartwatch. The third generation is splash-proof – a dive is not recommended by Pebble Technology. The watch comes in three different colors: black, white and red. If you want, you can exchange the bracelet – there is an easy quick change option.
The Pebble Time has an integrated microphone. It can be used to record voice memos and / or send text messages. Operation continues unchanged using the physical buttons on the side. In addition, Pebble has introduced a new interface, called Timeline. It presented content from the past, presence and future – all with a few swipe gestures.
