what are the causes, symptoms and treatments

Kidney colic is a pain that usually occurs in the lumbar region, and sometimes on the flanks. The origin of this pain is the kidney stone, also called lithiasis, which is a solid concretion formed by small crystals of mineral salts. How to recognize and deal with this problem?

The colic nephritic is not a disease but the manifestation of a symptom which corresponds to the appearance of kidney stones in the urinary system. It occurs when a kidney stone becomes detached from the organ and moves into theureter, towards bladder. The human body is indeed trying to eliminate them. The kidney stones, although located in kidneys, usually go unnoticed and can remain undetected for months or years.

The pain is brutal, strong, and does not calm down with changes in position, which makes one say in medical school: renal colic, frantic patient"

What are the main causes of renal colic?

  • A heat excessive: people living in tropical countries or working in very hot places should always try to stay well hydrated to avoid producing too concentrated urine.
  • Certain diets: high-salt foods, protein and sugars are risk factors. Grapefruit juice and alcohols strong are harmful, they increase the likelihood of kidney stone formation.

Many say that suffering from a kidney stone in movement is as strong as that of a delivery.
  • Nausea and vomiting can accompany the pain.

What treatments are indicated?

Contrary to what was recommended in the past, avoid excessive consumption of liquids during colic. This can increase the pressure of urine in the kidney and therefore increase pain. The treatment of renal colic can be done on several fronts:

  • Medication. During crises, the use ofpain relievers and D'anti-inflammatory powerful is indicated for pain relief which is extremely strong. Only drugs prescribed by a doctor should be taken.
  • Lithotripsy consists of sending shock waves in order to fragment the stone, which facilitates its elimination through the urine.
  • Percutaneous or endoscopic surgery: thanks toendoscope and at small holes, the stone can be removed from the kidneys after its fragmentation.
  • Ureteroscopy allows theablation kidney stones located in the ureter.

If kidney stones are suspected, it is essential to do tests such as x-ray of the abdomen, a ultrasound urinary tract, a computed tomography abdominal or renal x-ray by contrast (excretory urography).
