Face ID is a technique of facial recognition advanced, based on a software proprietary developed by Apple. It has been integrated into the brand's devices fromiPhone X. Face ID replaces the recognition systemfingerprints Touch ID to authenticate the user when trying to unlock the device, when paying and when connecting to applications secure.

Much more secure recognition than that of the front photo sensor

The strength of Face ID is that it does not use the sensor Photo selfie, which can easily be deceived by a printed face or displayed on a screen. Instead, it has technology that projects thousands of points infrared on the user to achieve an accurate 3D rendering. This system has the advantage of operating even in poor working conditions. brightness, to be extremely swift (only a few milliseconds) and not to be fooled by the presence or absence of glasses.

Face ID only works when the user has the eyes open and looking at the camera (or at least the screen) of the smartphone. This prevents malicious people from using a mask or take advantage of sleep an individual to easily unlock their device. Its only weakness is that it can be more easily deceived by a twin one fingerprint reader, but Apple claims that the probability of error is only 1 in 1 million compared to 1 in 50,000 with Touch ID.

To ensure the best possible protection of personal data, information relating to face mapping is stored only locally in a secure space within the processor, called Secure Enclave.
