Since 2017, Les Prés d’Eugénie has been part of the Palaces of France. A well-deserved label thanks to a mastery of the art of hospitality and a very special heritage. The history of this Maison de Charme began in 1861 when Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugénie, sponsored the small spa resort. After several successions, the beauty of the place has been sublimated into an elegant Relais & Chateaux hotel. We stay there for its upscale country atmosphere and its spa treatments, but also (and above all) to taste the Great Lean Cuisine of Michel Guérard, considered one of the founding fathers of “New cuisine”. Very quickly, his original and healthy cooking brought him a great international reputation and a succession of three Michelin stars from 1977 until today.
Les Prés d’Eugénie is located in Eugénie-les-bains in the south-west of France, a village nestled in a countryside with a landscape of water gardens and roses. To get there by train, the nearest main line station is in Dax (70 km). Otherwise, Pau-Pyrénées airport is 45 km away, Lourdes airport 100 km away and Bordeaux airport less than two hours away by car.
A living museum with country charm
The accommodation at this Relais & Châteaux is spread over two areas of the estate: the Grande Maison, in a refined style, and the Gardens, with a pastoral charm.
In the Big House
In the Aile des Prés and the Aile des Sources of this family home, there are the Classic and Superior Rooms, the Deluxe Rooms, the Suites and the Royal Suites. Almost all of them have a balcony or a terrace. While the Deluxe Rooms are arranged with a small lounge-reading area, the Suites have a separate living room. Although all offer a refined atmosphere, the Royal Suites are the most sumptuous in this part of the hotel. Woodwork, white marble and original antiques from the 18th and 19th centuries decorate this 80 m² cocoon. In fact, Les Prés d’Eugénie is a real living museum.
The Historic Empress Wing houses Deluxe Rooms, a Royal Suite and Imperial Suites. The latter are often considered the two most beautiful in the house. Of 120 and 150 m², they have the privilege of being open on three cardinal points. The highlight of the show: they are decorated with “Empire” works of art and paintings. Two exceptional accommodations.
In the Gardens
Surrounded by lush greenery, two 18th century buildings have been converted into rustic rooms and suites. In a decor with waxed floor tiles and Persian rugs, the atmosphere is beautifully poetic. All different, some suites have a separate living room, others a private garden.

To treat yourself to a moment of well-being, head to the Thermal Farm of Eugenie. In this former 17th century Landes farm, there is a cocooning space full of charm made up of 21 treatment cabins, two kaolin (white clay) swimming pools, a steam bath with thermal water and plants.
The spa draws its great strength from two hot springs (more than 18,000 years old!) rich in minerals and trace elements, devoid of any pollution. They are recognized as soothing for muscle and joint pain.
La Ferme Thermale d’Eugénie is also attentive to the benefits of plants. For a more “rustic” Gascon atmosphere, the Thrush Farm is not to be missed. The most emblematic recipes of the region are served on large tables d’hôtes and its terrace. Expect conviviality here and taste the delicacies of the region, with generous, “old-fashioned” cuisine.
Surrounded by furniture and works of art, the Loulou’s Lounge Bar majestically protects a Library of Armagnacs. See you at 9 p.m. for the opening of the doors of this large Chinese wardrobe. But first, savor Tea Time with madeleines and gingerbread rolls under the paintings of the Empress.
Finally, whether for a tomato gazpacho as an aperitif or a piece of grandmother’s cake for a snack, all the cravings can be wonderfully satisfied at the Café “Mother Hen”.
