After Free, SFR and Orange, Bouygues Telecom had to update its box offer, especially on the connectivity part. It's done with its new Wi-Fi 6 certified modem.

Bouygues Telecom unveiled its new Bbox Fiber modem on Tuesday, January 14. After Free and its Freebox Delta, SFR and Box 8 and Orange with its Livebox 5, it is the operator's turn, who claims 4 million fixed-line customers, to update its box offer. “We launched a 4K set-up box for 2025. With this new modem, we now have a complete and competitive offer”, explained Benoît Torloting, deputy general manager of Consumer and Business Operations.

According to him, it is not enough to have a competitive offer, “Above all, you have to provide excellent customer quality”. And for this, the operator questioned the French in a study conducted by OpinionWay (carried out in December 2024 on a panel of 1,000 Internet users) which concludes that they are looking above all for good quality internet in their homes to answer their more intense and shared uses. This study shows that households have 7 smart health connected objects on average. Suddenly, there is a real expectation, knowing that 26% of French say they are satisfied with their Wi-Fi and that 39% report having connection difficulties.

New design, better connection

Bouygues Telecom has not sold a dream today by promising mountains and wonders “Xavier Niel-style” during its presentation of the Freebox Delta. Operators have understood that it was no longer enough to stack functionality to attract customers. The time has come for sobriety and efficiency. The operator therefore relies on a product that aims to be design and in tune with the times. He wanted to completely rethink his modem by adopting a vertical design for “Optimize the quality of the Wi-Fi connection”. Because the new Bbox Fiber modem is Wi-Fi 6 certified to increase the speed and connection speed, but also for more robustness to interference. It is the only one, with the SFR Box 8, to be compatible with this new standard. It has a total of 8 Wi-Fi antennas, half in 5 GHz, half in 2.4 GHz. Wi-Fi 6 repeaters have also been designed for the most difficult areas of the health home.

The box is compatible with the band steering, a feature that allows connection to the 5 GHz network, faster, leaving the 2.4 GHz network for those who do not have two bands, and all this to improve performance.
