The Samsung Active 2 Samsung has one of the popular smartwatches on the market, and it’s easy to see why. Slim and sleek, it comes with a beautiful digital rotating frame. But what makes this smartwatch special is that it combines smart features and precise tracking. Plus, the slim look makes it easy to wear with both formal and casual clothes. Another fitness tracker that is receiving rave reviews is Fitbit Versa 2.
Combining a host of features, FitBit is one of the pioneers in sleep and fitness tracking. The Versa 2 is capable of much more. It has a slim and sleek profile with a host of smart features.
Although they are alike in many ways, each of the smartwatches has a huge price difference. Versa 2 costs around $ 150, while Active 2 costs around $ 300 (at the time of writing).
Therefore, it makes sense to compare these two smartwatches and see which one is right for your needs.
Well, that’s what we’ll answer in this post. As it’s going to be a long job, let’s get started right away, right?
Design, display and fit
Let’s start with the design of Samsung Galaxy Active 2. Galaxy Active 2 is the first Samsung smartwatch to have a digital rotating bezel. Yes, you just need to hover over the edge to navigate the menus and screens. It’s awesome!
The absence of the bezel gives you a slim look, one of the best parts of this smartwatch. To add to that, you have a rich AMOLED display.
There are two buttons – Home and Back. The feedback is wonderful, you feel good and solid.
In addition, the Galaxy Active 2’s silicone strap is comfortable to wear even for an extended period. I wear it regularly for workouts and so far have not had any issues with sweating or itching. In addition, it is always possible to upgrade to a more elegant and modern set.
More importantly, the build quality of the Galaxy Active 2 is solid. The screen is tough enough to withstand occasional brushes with door frames or seat handles. I’ve been using it for over four months, and so far haven’t seen any scratches.
Much like the Apple Watch, Fitbit Versa 2 technology takes a boxy design approach. Although it does not have a crown on the right side, you cannot see the visual similarity.
The missing crown is filled with a button on the left edge which doubles as a back button. I think it’s a bit flat, which robs you of haptic comments. Although the watch can withstand daily wear and tear and scratches, I think the strap is very strong. It can therefore be uncomfortable to wear them for longer.
Fortunately, you can easily switch the band to a slightly more flexible and slightly shorter outer band.
Apart from that, the AMOLED display is bright and pleasant. It has the new always-on display feature that appears on the image when the watch is inactive. While this will allow you to easily check your stats when the watch display is off, you will need to make sure that the watch face you have chosen has an AOD compliant watch face.
Otherwise, Versa 2 will just display a face by default. It’s different from the Galaxy Active 2, which has AOD mode for almost all watch faces.
Again, you can adjust the brightness within two hours. In the case of Galaxy Active 2, you can switch between eight brightness levels while Versa 2 only has three – Dim, Medium, and Max.
But what you love about two hours is browsing – it’s like a breeze in Galaxy Active 2 and Versa 2.
The first advantage of the first is the rotating frame. But in the end, it turns out to be a gimmick as you tend to forget about it after a few days. But no need to say it, it’s fun on the go.
Save the battery
Let’s start with a few disappointments first. The battery of the Samsung Galaxy Active 2 is horrible. If you have all the cool features that are turned on like Always On Display or Wi-Fi or have a luxurious colorful watch face, the battery can barely last two days, so you need to Recharge.
Shutting down some services doesn’t help, but it only limits the capacity of the smartwatch.
The most important thing in most Samsung smartwatches is that the battery life looks good at first. However, after a few weeks of regular use, it suffers from a significant decrease. Using the proprietary charging base and a 2.5 hour charge time doesn’t help.
What I usually do is push it onto the charging base before sleeping every third day. This way I can wake up in the morning with a fully charged smartwatch.
On the contrary, Fitbit Versa 2 has excellent battery life. The company declares the battery life to be five days and is responding to this request. Well, most of the time.
If you activate the “always-on display”, the battery life is greatly reduced. Without AOD you can expect more than 4 days of use, but you will only get about 2-3 days.
Exercise and sleep tracking
If you look around, even fitness trackers come with a pedometer, heart rate sensor, alarm clock, and notification stand. The important thing is to determine if the tool you are carrying correctly estimates these statistics.
Whether it’s Fitbit Versa 2 or Galaxy Active 2, the fitness tracking features are one of the most accurate and comprehensive. Both come with smart exercise discovery, heart rate monitor and sleep tracking features, with being excellent in version 2.
While Galaxy Active 2 shows you the essence of your sleep patterns on the connected Samsung Health app, Versa 2 goes ahead and even showcases your sleep patterns. If you remember, Fitbit trackers have been able to monitor sleep for quite some time now.
On the Fitbit app, you can see different stages like REM, Light, and Deep Sleep. However, to know your heart rate while resting or the comfort factor, you need to upgrade to Pro features.
On the contrary, Active 2 allows you to view all of these stats on the smartwatch (minus the sleep chart). So yes, you don’t need to open an app for that.
Smart features
So far, each of the smartwatches had a lot in common, whether it was exercise tracking or heart rate monitoring. However, when it comes to smart features, there is an ocean of difference between them.
Versa 2 lets you listen to music offline while you leave the service or check and reply to your messages when you’re away from your phone, but unfortunately smart features are limited. You can save your fitness stats, monitor your heart rate, stream songs to Deezer, and connect the watch to your wireless Bluetooth headsets. Yes, there are two more apps, but that’s it.
You cannot stream your favorite songs on Spotify and you will not be able to make a call on your phone due to the lack of speaker.
Unlike these features, Samsung Galaxy Active 2 has a lot more. First of all, there are many third party apps that this watch supports. From taking notes to double-using your watch as a remote, there is a lot you can do.
Second, there is the case of widgets. Being a fitness oriented watch, the Galaxy Active 2 comes with a host of widgets. Whether it’s the sleek step tracker or the awesome app screen, all you need to do is slide your finger across the digital frame and get started.
Most importantly, you can download your favorite songs from Spotify’s playlist (Premium) and pairing your headphones. However, you can leave your phone at home when you jog in the morning.
Although Versa 2 allows you to download tracks offline, the method can be a bit cumbersome. To do this, you’ll need a desktop version of the Fitbit app.
In short, when it comes to intelligence, the Galaxy Active 2 is the clear winner.
Samsung or Fitbit – which is better?
In terms of technology, the Samsung Watch Galaxy Active2 * gives you more. It depends on what you want the watch for.
Fitness, motivation, price and battery life: Fitbit Versa 2 *
Style, GPS and LTE: Samsung Watch Galaxy Active2 *
Fitbit Versa 2 is a pretty cool device in itself. It largely balances the fitness features with the intelligence of the smartwatch. The AMOLED screen is great, plus you can always switch between different views.
However, it lacks some things like onboard GPS, the ability to receive calls on the watch, and support for third-party apps. Yes, there is Alexa integration.
However, due to its price, Fitbit Versa 2 is a very good option.
On the contrary, Samsung Galaxy Active 2 is able to grab all the intelligence as well as the fitness features. Tracking is almost accurate, as the built-in GPS allows you to track your operations and also has intelligence.
So which one should you buy? Well if you have some cash to spend on Galaxy Active 2 then go for it. But if you don’t want to spend a lot on the watch, the Versa 2 is a good choice. After all, your smartphone shouldn’t feel left out, right?

The closest competitor in the Fitbit lineup is the Fitbit Inspire HR, which costs $ 99, like the Galaxy Fit. The Inspire HR is also waterproof up to 50 meters, it monitors sleep, heart rate and displays notifications. The main difference is in its screen which is monochrome while that of the Samsung is color.
The Galaxy Fit strap is thin, made from firm rubber. It is comfortable to wear but a little too thin for our taste. The included charger (owner) attaches magnetically to the back of the display.
On the Galaxy Fit, navigation is done by touching and swiping. It works well, but it’s not always easy to do on the move (the text is small). A side button allows you to return to the main watch display or quickly start a training session by pressing and holding. A very practical option that the Fitbit Inspire HR lacks.
Also great is the automatic tracking of gait and workouts on Samsung fitness products and the instant display of statistics on the screen. The watch faces on offer can show steps, heart rate, weather and a few other stats but you can’t browse them or see more than one pair at a time, which is annoying.
Just like on the Fitbit Inspire HR, a swipe of your finger reveals the quick dashboard of daily stats: heart rate (and resting heart rate), step count, calories consumed. On the other hand, the Galaxy Fit does not count the steps climbed.
Samsung Gear Sport vs Fitbit Ionic

At first glance, the Samsung Gear Sport and the Fitbit Ionic look different, but in terms of functionality, they are quite similar. Are you looking for an aerodynamic and comfortable smartwatch that you will wear especially at the gym? So, I recommend the Samsung Gear Sport. The altimeter and the numerous sport profiles make this watch a high-quality model that you can enjoy for a long time. Are you looking for a sports watch that stands out for its design and that you can also wear in the evening? Go for the Fitbit Ionic. You can put music on the watch so you never leave your home without your favorite playlists.
